Introduction

Methi paratha are said to be Indian flatbreads which are made up of wheat flour, fenugreek leaves, that is, methi leaves. Methi paratha means fenugreek flatbread. It is a flavour added to parantha. 

History

Paratha, which is called flatbread in English, It is a famous dish in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives, Myanmar, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Singapore, and Mauritius. The countries just have different names but the same ingredients and recipe. The word “paratha” is derived from a Sanskrit word. It is believed that it was first introduced in Punjab, after which it travelled to many countries. Initially, it was just plain paratha with no filling; later, many varieties of paratha emerged. Some varieties of paratha are vegetables like cauliflower, paneer, radish, onion, pudina, etc.

Fenugreek’s Benefits 

  • It is said that fenugreek is the oldest medical plant.
  • People use fenugreek for soaps, cosmetics, teas, garam masala, and condiments.
  • Vitamins which can be consumed through fenugreek are chlorine, inositol, biotin, vitamin a, vitamin b, vitamin d, iron.
  •  Fenugreek seeds help in reducing the risk of diabetes for normal people as well as diabetic patients. 
  • Fenugreek is very helpful for women who are breastfeeding as it helps in the production of milk. 
  • Fenugreek is often recommended by dieticians as it helps a person lose his or her weight. 
  • Fenugreek can play a good role during intercourse as it helps men to increase the level of testosterone as well as it increases sperm count in the body.
  • Fenugreek helps in increasing the immunity of a person as it has a good level of antioxidants in it.
  • Fenugreek is very good for heart patients as well as high blood pressure patients as it balances the cholesterol level as well as maintains the blood pressure level. 
  • Fenugreek is also used for medications as it is good for pain relief.

The Disadvantages of Fenugreek 

  • It is said that women should avoid consumption of fenugreek when pregnant as it might affect the fetus inside the womb.
  • Some researchers advised that women should not consume fenugreek when breastfeeding as it may increase the smell of fenugreek in an infant’s body.
  • Children whose age is between 4 and 10 years old who consume fenugreek regularly can also be affected by this as it may increase the odour in their body. 
  • People who are allergic to fenugreek should avoid consuming it.

Methi Paratha

Ingredients

  1. Wheat Flour
  2. Gram Flour
  3. Fenugreek Leaves
  4. Green Chilli
  5. Ginger paste
  6. Red chilli powder
  7. Curd
  8. Oil
  9. Salt
  10. Cumin Seeds

Recipe

  • Put the leaves and water in a bowl. Keep them still for about 2-3 minutes so that the dust in the leaves gets removed. Cut leaves into pieces with scissors.
  • Add wheat flour, gram flour, cumin seeds, green chilli paste, red chilli powder, curd, 1 teaspoon oil, and fenugreek leaves to a bowl and mix it well till it becomes a dough. One can also add potatoes to this mixture and it will definitely give a taste. 
  • Now convert this dough into a round chapati. One can also convert dough into triangular chapati.
  • Put this round chapati in a tawa to bake it well.
  • The side dish for this methi paratha is curd and pickle. It gives a different level of taste.
  • One can make the curd into a different recipe by adding raita and chat masala to it. mix it well.
