  • Jatoba is a fruit that is found in America, and Southern Brazil, and distributed to the West Indies. The fruit has different names like Brazillian cherry, South American cherry, Stinking toe fruit, and a lot more. The fruit is most commonly called a stinking toe.
  • It’s because of the strong unpleasant odor that comes from the seed pot of the fruit. It’s like a defense mechanism. When a person opens the fruit a strong odor smell comes out.

  • The tree that bears the fruit is 30-45 meters long in height and evergreen. They resemble an Umbrella shape on the top.  With their widespread branches and leaves, they take place in tropical forests.
  • The tree grows in many soils but they show the best results in deep, fertile, moist, and well-drained soils.
  • The diameter of the tree bole is around 60-120cm. The leaves of the plant are 5-10cm in length and their flowers are 8-15cm wide and 6mm long. 
  • The fruit starts growing in the branches of the tree which are green in their young stage. They turn reddish-brown when they reach the mature stage. They grow 4-16cm long and they have a hard shell with a thickness of 2-4cm.
  • Inside the shell, we can see the fruit that looks yellow like a Banana. In some fruits, we can able to see separate fruits in elliptical shapes. The taste of the fruit is identified as powdered sugar.
  • While eating we may experience the fruit sticks in our upper mouth like a powder. The fruit is rich in starch and proteins.
