Yellow fever – Ghana

The outbreak of yellow fever in north Ghana have killed 25 people and 18 are on admission according to a statement issued by Ghana Health Services (GHS).

The deaths reported are from the Savana region and the upper west region.

On 29th October GHS notified the public about the outbreak which was initially detected in the Savana region with 8 deaths reported.

A team of infectious diseases experts have been dispatched for the services to investigate the outbreak and incorporate proper control measures.

A total of 43,615 people are fully vaccinated a measures to minimise the spread of the infection. 

Yellow fever virus is found in tropical and subtropical areas of Africa. In the jungle, the transmission happens between non-human primates and mosquitoes.

A viral disease like yellow fever is spread through mosquito bites. The virus is transmitted from monkeys to humans via carrier mosquitoes.
