About:
World Ocean Day post
World Oceans Day is an annual international event held by the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea on June 8th of every year. Every year it comes with a different theme. In 2021 the theme was ‘The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods.’ And in 2022, the highlight of it is, ‘Revitalisation: Collective Action for our Ocean.’
The concept of a World Oceans Day was first proposed in 1992 at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit as a way to celebrate our shared ocean and our connection to the sea, as well as to raise awareness about the critical role the ocean plays in our lives and the important ways people can help protect it.
The all-inclusive event is an opportunity to recognize the value of the ocean and gain a better understanding of how to interact with it sustainably because we lost touch with our blue planet somewhere along the way. And working together, on the other hand, is humanity’s superpower. And it is still our best tool for addressing the world’s most pressing issues, such as climate change and ocean protection.
Why is Ocean Important:
A wave of ocean water
The ocean covers more than 70% of the planet. It is one of our major sources of life, sustaining humanity and all other organisms on the planet. The ocean also produces at least half of the planet’s oxygen, is home to the majority of the planet’s biodiversity, and is the primary source of protein for more than a billion people worldwide. Not to mention that the ocean is critical to our economy, with ocean-based industries employing an estimated 40 million people by 2030.
And now after playing the role of the backbone of our existence, it needs our help.
With 90 percent of large fish populations depleted and 50 percent of coral reefs destroyed, we are depleting the ocean faster than it can be replenished. To protect and preserve the ocean and everything it supports, we must strike a new balance based on a true understanding of the ocean and how humanity interacts with it. We must create an ocean connection that is inclusive, innovative, and informed by historical lessons.

- Conservation:
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of going to the beach? Have fun in the sun, right? While swimming feels great, we don’t always consider what that water means to us. It is critical to the biosphere, and we want future generations to be able to enjoy it. But the way we’re polluting it, the previous statement now seems questionable.
- Initiation:
some of our wastes are biodegradable while some are not, and the ocean is left to clean them up. Dumping recyclables into the appropriate bin is a good first step, but we must continue this practice at home. Even if you don’t live near the coast, tell your friends and family about how recycling makes the ocean happy.

- By pledging:
Not sure what to do or where to begin with, this Ocean Day? Take small but not so small steps and take a pledge to keep the Ocean clean and happy whenever you visit it and work on it.
- By cleaning up the beach:
Visiting our beautiful ocean is, of course, one of the best ways to celebrate. Maintain a focus on sustainability, however. Are you getting your grill on? Instead of using a plastic bag, take a reusable tote bag to the store. Are you throwing a party? Bring your plates instead of using disposable plastic ones. After putting so much thought into conservation, it would be a shame to throw it all away on the beach. So clean up after your party, and maybe others will follow your lead.
