Introduction

Jackman Clematis was introduced in 1862. It was the first flower to be formed by hybridization of modern-large flower Clematis. For the formation of this beautiful purple flower, two different species of clematis (C.lanuginosa and C.viticella) were cross-hybridized. The Jackmanii is said to be one of the most generous bloomers and strongest growers.

The deep velvet purple is centered with pale citron-yellow stamens. The ideal place or regions for growing clematis are the Midwest, Southeast, Northeast, and Pacific North West.
