Covid-19 is a disease that stopped the entire world and packed up all of us inside our homes. A pandemic that engulfed every single individual on the planet.

A disease about which nobody was aware of or for which any country was prepared.

It came and it stayed….

Till today when I’m writing this article, we are in the clutches of the virus. Nobody knows where it is, when it will end, is it still there, or has it left… We still are in a state of guesswork…
The innumerable lives Covid-19 took was a heart wrecking scenario. Many of us have lost our near and dear ones to the virus. Our capable doctors are toiling day and night toward ending this virus and I think the United Kingdom has already come out with a resolution………..

A ray of hope

The United Kingdom(UK) has become the first country to approve and launch an oral antiviral pill for the treatment of the SARS Covid-19 Virus, on November 4, 2021. The revolutionary measure is that this pill can be taken at home.

It is developed by Merck Sharp &Dohme, known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics announced. The United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced its authorization and launch.
According to the MHRA, the trials of the antiviral pills conducted have shown that they are safe and significant to reduce the risk of hospitalization and death of people. This will be effective for people with mild to moderate Covid-19 infection who are at an increased risk of cultivating severe illnesses.
The antiviral pills are named Molnupiravir or Lagevrio. It functions on the program of decreasing the ability of the virus to duplicate which in turn will eventually reduce the risk of death by reducing its speed of multiplication in the human body.

It will be a game-changing event in curbing the pandemic caused by this dreadful Covid-19 virus….

Of course, Molnupiravir will be playing a prominent role in revolutionizing the outlook on the treatment and abatement of Covid-19 affliction.
It may become one of the most in-demand medical drugs in the world, from where I can probe into the future.

This morning itself, when I’m writing this article, the reporters in India have reported around 11 thousand active cases in the country. So, the virus is not ready to leave and thus the success of the pill, if it gets inducted into the medical system, is a sure shot.

Let’s see some advantages of the antiviral poll to be introduced:

It’s the first proper, approved medicine against the coronavirus.
It can be consumed right after a Covid-19 positive report and within 5 days of onset of first symptoms.
It has become the first remedy for coronavirus which will be taken by mouth instead of being administered intravenously.
It can be dispensed to people outside the hospitals.
It can be taken at home(orally).
The medicine will reduce the odds of hospitalization because it will inhibit the growth of the virus in the initial stages itself.

Thus, it is a miracle to have occurred at the hands of our researchers and scientists…….

Though the drug is now being evaluated by the United States and the European Union, it has some inherent restrictions in its usage:-

- The drug is most effective during the early stages of the infection.
- The MHRA recommends its use within five days of the outset of Covid-19 symptoms.

The announcement and approval of Merck’s Lagevrio have been a tremendous step towards the epic scene of having to watch the end of the pandemic-causing virus. Now it can be expected to recede its effects on us on the endorsement of the pill.
The UK is the first and the country with the maximum number of covid-19 cases and even at present, it has more than 40 thousand active cases and 214 deaths within a month of infestation. So, it needed a miracle….
Thus, the announcement of this discovery is a watershed moment in UK’s history. The day has marked a moment of pride for the UK in world history…..
